It begins.....

Well today was our final day working at Christ the King Parish. We now start the adventure we have been planning for about 10 years. It almost seems surreal, it's here now......
It begins !

& then there was SEC Football and Beer

So the weather was perfect, the park was great and the day started out right on schedule. The 100K runners (3 loops around the lake) started at 6:30am and reversed direction each time. I was a bit surprized at the terrain, it was actually pretty hilly. The hills weren't long but pretty steep and came in sets of 4-5 at a time. There was an aid station at 4 miles and one at 8 miles, both were minimal but welcome and then at  about 17 miles there was some jugs of water. I estimated I would take 4 hrs for the first loop, 4.5 for loop two and then 5-5.5 for the last, finishing about 14 hrs. The first loop went well, I finished in 3hrs 45min, stayed at the S/F for 15 min and took off feeling pretty good. About 3/4 way around I lost it, I knew the day was finished. I shuffled to the 4 mile aid station, (course was reversed so it was actually about 16 miles) then just walked the rest in, running a little but mostly walking. Mo was there waiting and after we sat for a few minutes we headed for the MH for a shower and Auburn/ South Carolina football and BEER!
It was a great day, I had a 40 mile run in 8hrs 55min; watched a really good football game, drank some beer and relaxed in my own chair.
Today we planned on getting up early closing up and go into Ville Platte for 8:30 Mass. What we did was wake up at 4:30, drink some coffe, go back to sleep and wake up at 6 and start all over. We didn't make it to Mass there, we didn't even leave until 10:30! We made it home about 5pm.
This has been a really fun weekend and makes it hard to wait even the 3 weeks we have left at work.

Getting close.......

Well we got through the Thanksgiving holiday and my birthday, here it is December 3rd. Our jobs are winding down. My replacement started Monday, Nov 29th., he seems to be able to do the work and since he won't have any office work at all, he should easily be able to keep up with the general maintenance. Monette's position hasn't been filled yet but we suspect it will be next week. Our last day at Christ the King will be Dec 23, the time now is flying by. This long worked for and waited for dream will soon be a reality!
Hal le lu ya !

So, as I said here we are, back on the road for a short weekend trip, just gotta keep the wheels rolling. We keep hearing that the worst thing for a motorhome is to let it sit still! We took off a 1/2 day Thursday and drove to Biloxi, MS and got a recall done on the refrig and then drove on to Baton Rouge, LA where we stayed in a WalMart lot for the night. This morning we completed our journey to Chicot State Park near Ville Platte, LA. You ask, 'WHY?' well, I'm registered to participate in the 1st anual Cajun Coyote Trail run. It's a 100K run that circles the park lake 3 times to make the distance.  There's also the option of 1 or 2 loops or to do the full distance as a relay team. It should be fun.......ahhhhh, maybe that won't be the word I use Saturday night. I'll try and post a recap on Sunday morning before we leave to go home.
